Subject: Nothing in "Add and Remove" after Disk2VHD

I did a physical to virtual of Windows Server 2003.

After booting it in Hyper-V, I wanted to go into "Add and Remove" to remove programs I no longer wanted and low and behold.... there is nothing in there.

I can go to Windows Components and see what should be there but there is nothing in "Change or Remove Programs".

I booted in Safe Mode and I am able to see programs there but unable to uninstall from Safe Mode.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

BgInfo : "select * from BGInfoTable" every time it runs?

We are running BGInfo during user logon for every computer in our network.
We do not use the display to screen option.  The data is saved to a SQL server.

The SQL server has been running slow, and when I look at the processes, I see many processes running:

"select * from BGInfoTable"

During logon, we run:

"C:\Program Files\BGInfo\BGInfo.exe" SQL.bgi /TIMER:0 /SILENT /NOLICPROMPT

SQL.bgi is the name of our configuration file.

It completes the command very quickly.  Is something else going on or is this starting a "SELECT *" command?   The host computer name is showing as the computer name specified in the config file.

Why would BGInfo run a SELECT * statement everytime it runs?

Solmer,

Where did you find v3.02 of portmon? So far all the bing searches have been portmon98.zip which points back to Microsoft sites.

Found Portmon v3.02 here.

In my case on WinXP SP 3, Computer menu item appeared in v3.02, and after I connected to local machine and re-opened v3.03, it connected upon openning (still no computer menu in v3.03, though). Probably v3.02 initialized some registry value to make the menu item appear (didn't bother to look further into it). But.. don't see any captured data, sadly.

The link is unavailable. I've found v3.02 on the dev's original site.

Process Explorer : Process Explorer stops when Excel starts

I'm using Excel 2010, Windows 7 (with all Microsoft updates current) and Process Explorer v16.02.

I've got 2 possibly related questions and 1 comment:

1) I'm finding that my open session of Process Explorer stops whenever Excel starts.  Does anyone have any idea why or how to stop this?

2) A possibly related issue is that I frequently (but not always) will exit Excel and find that some Excel process is still left running per Process Explorer.  As I work in Excel/VBA development, I usually will Kill that Excel instance before starting a fresh Excel session.  If anyone has any insights into this, too, I'd love to hear them.

3) Lastly, the two links to the Process Explorer webpage on http://forum.sysinternals.com/faq-common-processexplorer-issues_topic15922.html point to here:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx

... but are re-directed to:

http://www.microsoft.com/err/technet/sysinternals/

Thanks for any help.

I'm getting a random error on startup:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Error creating the output bitmap file
 C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\BGInfo.bmp:
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Please ensure the path exists and you have permission to write to it.

You can select a different output path for the bitmpa using the
Bitmap|Location menu item.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks for posting, pinscomputer.

I downloaded v16.05 and ran same.  Unfortunately, both issues are continuing to persist with the new version.

make 100% sure you are running 16.05 and not the prior version 16.02 when the error occurs.

help... about... to confirm.

if it is still a problem, try taking a process monitor log of the activity.

if you want to post the procmon results for others to try and analyze, do NOT pre-filter the procmon results.  Make sure to select "all events" when you save the log file.

start with a log for problem 1. that you listed.

1.  is the "paged limit" entry showingany information?

2.  does the directory on your computer that you set up as the location to store symbol information contain any files?

3.  in process explorer, if you right click on a process, select "properties" and then select the "thread" tab... are symbols resolved for any of the thread entries?

I'm trying to use RAMmap to debug a memory problem, but the numbers literally don't add up:

I'm running it as administrator on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1.

What can be wrong?

change the language/region settings to En-US and look if this fixes the wrong numbers.

open the stacks of the kernel/system so that the PDB gets loaded. Does it now show the correct value?

Not sure what happened.  Could be that I was running an earlier version, but can't confirm since I thought I had backed up the older one, but may have erased it.

It now shows the correct values.

Thanks,

A

livekd.exe
procexp.exe
ru.exe
sigcheck.exe
Sysmon.exe
vmmap.exe
ZoomIt.exe

Recent version of this executable compiled with SSE2 only FP libraries and can't run on older processors
As stated in this thread last "normal" Process Explorer - 16.02
Is anything planned to do?

Process Monitor : strange behavior of Process Monitor

I made shell extension using this code https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/CppShellExtContextMenuHandl-410a709a
The only change is file extension of context menu( .cpp -> * )

Windows 7 64bit, register shell extension(32bit) & run Process Monitor, then Process Monitor(32bit module) load shell extension and call IContextMenu functions(QueryContextMenu, InvokeCommand...)

This behavior does not occur Windows 7 32bit

Is right ?
