Reading thru...
...it seems to me that the PAE version of the kernel can be used automatically by the OS even if you don't have the /3GB switch or the /PAE switch enabled in the boot.ini file.
The article says:
![]() Windows automatically enables PAE if DEP is enabled on a computer that supports hardware-enabled DEP, or if the computer is configured for hot-add memory devices in memory ranges beyond 4 GB. If the computer does not support hardware-enabled DEP or is not configured for hot-add memory devices in memory ranges beyond 4 GB, PAE must be explicitly enabled. |
So if you have a Data Execution Prevention hardware enabled computer you will likely need the symbols for the ntkrnlpa.exe version of the kernel over the ntoskrnl.exe version to see the maximum paged/nonpaged pool memory?
