Testing psexec and WMP execution I got the same error code you received.
psexec \\127.0.0.1 "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /play /close /fullscreen c:\windows\media\chimes.wav
came back with the same message you reported along with a message to configure Windows Media Player with the 'Recommended Settings' selected. (I don't use WMP as my native player, so this is what I got.)
So, unless WMP has be used and configured once before, it may be blocked by this screen asking to configure WMP prior to use.
So much for a prank.
