You're right of course, it's a 3.5". I was able to remove screwless cover, remove extensive metal shielding, and removed p.c.b. attached to business end of drive. Easy! Power then SATA signal cables only connections required.
Attached both, powered up computer, and was treated to a horrible grinding noise. Shut everything down, removed drive, then disassembled drive itself. Discovered drive arm stuck under center hub. Carefully moved arm, reassembled, reconnected to computer, and...
Nothing. Still could not get disc to initialize, although grinding noise was gone. Corrupted drive? You bet'cha.
Drive is now "swimming with the fishes", spent way too much time on old unit. Quit, and installed a new SATA Hybrid Hard Drive (internally) to desktop.
