regarding the missing lower pane in process explorer
possibly because the "size" of the lower pane was dragged and made invisible.try the following to recover...
select "view"
from the drop down, select "lower pane view"
if "DLLs" has a check in front of it, select "Handles"
if "Handles" has a check in front of it, select "DLLs"
that should recover the lower pane if it was resized to the point of no longer showing.
with regard to the cpu activity, process explorer might be able to provide an idea of what is consuming cpu providing that you can visually see the spike in cpu usage occur in process explorer when it happens.
forum member magicandre1981, will likely point you toward using windows performance analyzer. (look under the troubleshooting topic for more info on windows performance analyzer)
have you updated any drivers lately?
