Subject: HELP can't boot to 8.1 on VHD
Posted: 09 September 2014 at 12:19pm

Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I installed Win 7 ultimate 64bit on a new SSD - works fine.
swapped to another temp SSD and again installed Win 7 ultimate 64bit onto that - works fine.
Used Disk2vhd to make a vhd of that.
Booted back to original SSD and installed Virtual Disc Manager - works fine.
Copied vhd file over and added to boot list of Virtual Disk manager - All OK.
Reboot PC and I correctly get boot menu of either the host Win 7 or the vhd version, both work successfully.
Now need to add a boot option for Win 8.1 Pro 64bit.

swapped to temp SSD again. - OK
Installed Win 8.1 Pro 64bit - OK, works fine.
Used disk2vhd to make a vhd file of that - OK.
Boot back to original SSD and host Win 7 system - OK.
copy vhd file over and add to Virtual Disk Manager boot list - All seems OK.
Reboot PC and I now have 3 boot choices...
1) Original host win 7 ultimate 64bit - works correctly.
2) vhd of win 7 ultimate 64bit - works correctly.
3) vhd of Win 8.1 Pro 64bit - won't boot.
Keeps reporting File: \windows\system32\winload.exe Status:0xc0000428 Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.

I have gone back to the temp SSD that has Win 8.1 on it, disabled the checks for signed drivers and files, then made a new vhd file of this, gone back to the host Win 7, removed the original from Virtual Disk Manager and replaced it with the new one.
I still have the same problem.

Can anyone help me get past this problem please, it is stopping me setting up this PC to test software between 2 different OSs ?
