It is my understanding selecting between VHD and VHDX is supposed to be controlled by how you name your file (ex. the extension you use). This does not appear to work correctly on Windows 7 / Server 2008.

It is my understanding selecting between VHD and VHDX is supposed to be controlled by how you name your file (ex. the extension you use). This does not appear to work correctly on Windows 7 / Server 2008.
From a command line, VHDX is always selected, regardless of the output filename. The only way to force a VHD is to actually poison the file extension (ex. use VHDA or some other nonsensical extension).
It would helpful if this feature could be fixed to work correctly.
