Subject: BGInfo as a scheduled task in Windows 2012r2

Hi,

BGInfo - 4.20

I'm setting up an Windows 2012r2 base system that will be images and form a template for server deployments. I've gone through the basics of setting up BGInfo (as per help file) and am looking to set this up as a couple of scheduled tasks, one that runs on system start and one that run every hour. This will need to run for both console and RDP access, for multiple user accounts.

I have tried setting up the tasks use the Administrator account to "Run only when user is logged in" (although I'm not sure if this will work for the task run when the System starts, maybe this should be when the User logs on?), but also to "Run whether the user is Logged on or not" (with the "Do not store Password" box Unticked) so that I have to enter the administrators password.

The task points to the BGInfo.exe and uses "/timer:0 /all /nolicprompt" as arguments (have also tried "/accepteula"), but if we run this task we see a dialog error:

BGInfo
Unable to relaunch as a service

This operation requires that BGInfo be run under an Administrator account

Of course, the task IS setup to use an Administrator account, so not sure what is happening.

In addition the following errors are logged in the System Log:

Event ID 7030: The BGInfo service is marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly.
Event ID 7009: A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the BGInfo service to connect.

Event ID 7000: The BGInfo service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I ran though a search on the forum and although there a are a couple of similar posts relating to Windows 2012, there are no specific replies.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm assuming that the help file is a little old and this app longer functions as a task, or am I missing something?

I also noticed that two separate BGInfo background processes are started when the task runs. Is this normal?

Chris
