PsTools : PsPasswd

We cannot help you with this.

Before  PsPasswd can change a password you must provide required login credentials. This is not a limitation of the software but imposed by Windows security. The ability to change a password without credentials would be an enormous security problem.

What you are asking for is considered hacking and is not permitted by forum rules. You may have a legitimate reason but we have no way to verify this. Also be aware that this is a public forum where all posts will be accessible by anyone with an Internet connection for years to come. Some of these people will have dishonest intentions. Thus we must err on the side of caution.

You will have to work out your issues with your sister by other means.

To change a password with pspasswd, or any similar utility, you must provide proper login credentials. This is imposed by Windows security. All users in such a situation should have access only to a limited account. An admin account should be reserved for yourself or other trusted persons. Giving children admin access is asking for trouble.

When you run psinfo on a Windows 7 system with a version of IE greater than 9 it appears to report the IE version as 9.000.

Running Process Monitor it shows that psinfo is reading;
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Version Vector\IE

The Microsoft website seems to indicate that the Version number (stored in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer) would be more accurate, with svcVersion giving a more user friendly version number.

It would be preferable for psinfo to return one of these two values in a future version.

Hello LMiller7,
So i should share my credentials with all the computer (reboot the computer that has already been changed) and then limit the admin access. Then i will be able to "controll" all the computers just in case something else funny like that counts?

I have been having issues with my laptop printing on the network.
My laptop is joined to a domain.

I was having other issues as well like my integrated windows authentication not working..

After researching a bit I ran AutoRuns to check if things look ok and noticed that no  LSA providers are shown..

How can I fix this?

Unless you have some third party software installed, these are all hidden by default. On Filter Options, uncheck 'Hide Microsoft entries' and 'Hide Windows entries' and rescan.

On Process Explorer's System Information dialog of a Windows 8.1 computer, the nonpaged limit of kernel memory is set to 0 KB.  The Windows Driver Kit and the latest Microsoft Updates are installed.  Also, Process Explorer's Configure Symbols dialog is set as follows:

Dbghelp.dll path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Debuggers\x64\dbghelp.dll
Symbols path: SRV*C:\Symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols

I have not yet seen the nonpaged limit set to a non-zero value on any of the Windows 8.1 computers that I manage.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Desktops is absolutely fantastic, thank you for putting together such a useful program.

I noticed that if I'm running Lotus Sametime and switch to desktop 2, it goes there for a second then gets automatically changed back to desktop 1.

I gather it's probably something Sametime's doing wrong because I've been using Desktops for so many years with lots of different applications. It appears this issue has existed in Sametime since at least 2008 so probably won't go away in a hurry.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent it? Is it possible to get windows to ignore 'SwitchDesktop' messages from Sametime?

Hi

I had a standard windows 7 x64 image with the usual 100m boot partition and C drive and some unformated space on the remaining part of the drive.

I selected the C: drive only in Disk2vhd (v2.01) and created a VHD, no probs so far.

However when i attach the VHD, it shows this,

=> So is this a bug ? it is possible the 100M is empty and not copied.
My expectation was the VHD would only contain the chosen partition ?

Thanks

This worked:

1. Use 7 zip to open:
C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Lotus\Sametime Connect\shared\eclipse\plugins\com.ibm.collaboration.realtime.activitymonitor.win32.win32.x86_8.5.2.20110516-1528.jar

2. Navigate to \os\win32\x86\

3. Delete ActivityMonitor.dll

4. Close 7zip and restart the computer

From what I've read, ActivityMonitor.dll has a loop that every 5 seconds it calls SwitchDesktop which takes it back to desktop 1.

Hi.

I'm trying to find help on resolving a problem with a Microsoft process showing as unverified.

I checked with system internals process explorer and Microsoft Livecomm.exe process was showing as unsigned. At the time I was running Microsoft Windows 8.1 that I had downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

I reinstalled windows 8, checked with process explorer, Livecomm.exe was showing as verified.
I upgraded to Windows 8.1, checked process explorer, Livecomm.exe was showing as NOT verified!

As Windows 8.1 was installing a message came up stating 'Universal Unique Identifier is not supported' and something about group policy.

My question is how do I make sure Livecomm.exe is verified?

Hello,

I have a Windows 2000 computer peer-to-peer with a Windows 7 Pro computer. I am trying to run an executable on the Windows 7 computer (graphical interface) from the Windows 2000 computer using the following in a Windows 2000 CMD window: psexec \\teradyne -i c:\hold\responder.exe. The first time this is executed a message appears on the Windows 7 computer stating: "A program running on this computer is trying to display a message". If the "View this message" option is selected the program interface appears as expected. Once the application is closed the CMD window on the Windows 2000 computer shows a return value of 0 from psexec. If the same is entered again: "psexec \\teradyne -i c:\hold\responder.exe" psexec responds with "Error communicating with PsExec service on teradyne: The pipe has ended.". At this point the only way to get it to work again is by rebooting both computers.

The version of PsExec being used is 1.71. I downloaded version 2.11 and attempted the same procedure as described above (after rebooting both computers) and the first time the Windows CMD window entered: "psexec \\teradyne -i c:\hold\responder.exe" psexec responded with: "Error deriving session type: Provider type not defined".

Is there any way to remote-execute a graphical-user-interface application on the Windows 7 computer via PsExec on the Windows 2000 computer?

Hello,
I have two similar questions so I thought that I would ask them both on the same topic. The first is that whenever I launch Process Explorer there seems to be high CPU activity for a moment and then it goes back to normal. I have also noticed this when I launch Task Manager. The following screenshots show this:

The second question is that the process System Idle Process seems to consume high levels of CPU. Is this normal? I have noticed that this is not shown on Task Manager. The following screenshots show this:

Starting a process requires considerable CPU usage and Process Explorer is no exception. I see the same with Task Manager, Process Explorer, and other utilities. This is normal and to be expected.

The "System Idle Process" isn't a real process. In practical terms it is just the amount of CPU time not being used by processes. Higher numbers are better. What you are seeing is completely normal.

When the display is sorted by CPU usage on an active system the display is bound to be unstable. I don't see how it could be any other way.

Edit: It is normal practice to always have a selected line in this kind of utility. This is by design and is a considerable benefit to people using the keyboard instead of the mouse. I don't believe there is any way to change this.
