Hello Thomas,

I have been looking for a decent whois.exe, and I just tried yours -thank you, it seems to work great!

It certainly seems to work better than the whois.exe sysinternals.

Thanks,

I've found thru suggestion elsewhere to roll back to version 14.1. There are no problems with high usage results with that version, but with everyone after.

Hi all,

I am trying to a comand in cmd under standard widnows user (limited acces) passing credentials of an admin user (both local users) but i keep getting the following failure:

logon failure: unknown user name or bad password

my command is as follows
C:\PROGRA~1\Test\Test\Updates\Test_RM83\psexec.exe -accepteula -u "Test Admin" -p T3sc0 "C:\PROGRA~1\Test\Test\updates\Test_RM83\3975\Get_Autobuild_Directory.bat"

I believe the issue is with the user name. It is a two word name. 'Test Admin',  hence when the user name is passed only one word is passed hence the user name is always incorrect.

The same command works fine if the user name is a single word.

This seems to be an issue only in win7 as it works fine in winXP with 2 word user name.

I need to do this with user name consisting of 2 words.

I would appreciate your help.

Kind regards

Autoruns : Microsoft files now unverified

I had a funny issue yesterday when I tried to install the new AMD Catalyst Omega driver.  It told me the driver was unsigned.  I eventually downgraded it back to the previous working version.  Then for an unrelated reason, I launched AutoRuns and discovered that it now claims files like cmd.exe, shell32.dll and userinit.exe and many many others are "not verified".

Today I find the following thread that describes my AMD driver issue and pins the blame on this Tuesday's root certificates-related patch:
It sounds as though my failed verification issue in Autoruns has to be related.

I've uninstalled that KB patch but not attempted the AMD driver again.  Autoruns looks no better though.

Any magic suggestions?

Windows 7 SP1 x64 - otherwise fully patched

Thanks for reading!

Well an hour later (not having changed anything since), I've run AutoRuns again and now everything is back to normal?!!

I'm sure the underlying problem was the patch.

Miscellaneous Utilities : Setting screen resolution for Autologon

Hi,

I started to do experiments with the Autologon tool (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963905.aspx) and found that the screen size defaults to 1024x768 and I would like to set that to something bigger.
Is there any way to do that, with either the Autologon tool or by any other means?

Background information:
I use several Windows Server 2012 AWS VM test clients for running some UI tests. The tests require a user to be logged on. So far I kept an RDP connection open for the duration of the tests, and it worked fine, but I'm trying to automate the management of the test clients, i.e. I need to: start the VM in the cloud, have a user log in by any means (for which I use Autologon at the moment as a replacement of the manual RDP connection), perform the UI tests, stop the VM.
My Autologon based solution seems to be working fine for the login task, except that the screen size is too small for certain scenarios. It defaults to 1024x786, but I would prefer to have something like 1600x1200.

Thanks,
László

Using a computer/account where Temp folder is readable, just copy procexp64.exe from Temp to anywhere else and run it from the new location.
Or get it from here.

Mark: How about a simple de-OOPs to recover things like 10 years of e-mail (well actually only the last IMPORTANT month) that suddenly goes missing either for no reason at all, or, in this case, apparently a GENUINE SPONTANEOUS QUICKFORMAT of drive?

A SECOND HARDER JOB: After a 2K-7 (d/k 8/10 yet 8.1 is even just a Bob to make all our PCS terminals like our pads and phones....

eliminate the "Well drivespace is almost FREE " (AND THE SLOWEST THING ON MACHINE attitude)

1) Keep a clean copy of your preferred setup, and the Last Known Setup (essentially a copy of %system(s)% drive(s) so every boot loads either a squeaky clean or an As you left it after cleaning up the mess copy onto an ultra-HS DMA SRAM disk.

2)Cut the cost of said disk by auto-erasing unneeded parts of Windows: Like the 25 languages and their fonts you DONT use and can install from your original disk when needed, and the HUGE STACK OF ELEMENTS that Installer pasts together to give you Windows for YOUR particular Intel or Intel competitor CPUs and chipsets life - then leaves a copy of all the pieces, all the drivers for stuff you don't own, etc. Go even further, for those of us who still believe in some privacy, why not answer the old "Everybody uses only 10% of Word, trouble is, it's a different 10%" problem by allowing optional features to remain on distro disks?

It'll be a while before the fans go, but they don't slow the system.

3)Another Great Thing would move WIN7+ USER Data and PROGRAM Data to a separate portion of the drive, with a third for data in general - if not enforcing multiple drives. OTHERWISE a 12-hr day sends speed crashing as files are more and more fragmented. (well Win XP +, but I guess you'd not be allowed to make that official). While there, TweakUI for 7-10, thats all I want right now!

Anybody got any other quick jobs we can whip the guys into.

Hi everyone.
I have an issue with PsInfo. "PsInfo -s" works good with english apps names, but it's not that good when it goes to cyrillic names. So I have the following:

Instead of cyrillic symbols it shows question symbols.
Changing codepage (to cp1251 or 866) doesn't work.
Is there any solution? Thanks.

Hi Forum,

we have problems starting Process Explorer on Itanium (IA64).

Error message after starting:
"Unable to extract 64-bit image. Run Process Explorer from a
writeable directory."

After extracting the image on another server, we have copied
the result (procexp64.exe) back to the Itanium server.

After running that file, we got the following response:
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows
you're running. Check you computer's system information to see
whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the
program, and then contact the software publisher."

Is there any info or experience to be shared ?

Thanks and best regards,
Erwin
