Process Explorer : PE will not maximise

Subject: PE will not maximise

Hello

I am very new to this so please excuse any errors.

I am trying to run Process Explorer on a DELL desktop running WIN 10.

Every time I try and run the program it starts minimized. I cannot get it to maximize.

However if I enable the Windows Admin account, sign on using this, Process Explorer

loads ok. In this mode I thought that I could then select the option to replace Task

Manager but any time I click on that option the screen just refreshes.

Any ideas on why it will not maximize when I use my own login or why the replace Task Manager

does not work

Gerard

In my test directory there are 3 files:

testfile1.xls
testfile2.xlsx
testfile3.xlsabcdef

sdelete *.xls should wipe just testfile1.xls but surprisingly wipe all the 3 files, therefore sdelete *.xls   actually acts as   sdelete *.xls*

Same behavior with sdelete v1.51

best regards

Hi,
It seems that after the aniversary update of Windows 10 the way the boottime is stored has changed. At least that is what I think has happened.
Using the latest 4.21 version of BgInfo my Windows 10 home system at home keeps displaying sep 30th as my boottime eventhough I boot my system each day.
Does anyone know how to report this to Microsoft?

looking for a wake on lan tool myself, ran across this post with about 8 free wake on tools and we ended up grabbing the solarwinds Wake on lan utility - which is free for lifetime and works like a charm! nice part about this tool is that you can send multiple wake packets at certain intervals. anyways, there's some others out there that many have mentioned that work well too!

Just did a little more research. It seems the WNI query simply returns the wrong value:
If I use
SELECT LastBootUpTime FROM Win32_OperatingSystem
I get a boottime of sep 9th, and that is what BgInfo reports too. So it seems this is a bug in Windows10 Home. How can we report this bug?

BgInfo : simple text entry in Custom field?

Thanks.  The way I am doing it now is simply making one .txt file for each line.  To keep the normal formatting.  Presumably I could sort of combine mulitple lines into one .txt file.

I was just thinking that BgInfo could have its own way to simply put in a line, and maintain the information somewhere.  However, since the usage is only occasional, I understand the simplicity of using the .txt file approach.

Hi

In my company, we have installed BGInfo in all computers of the users. The users have different size screen, 4:3 and 16:9.

We want to change de wallpaper (now each user have your own wallpaper) but when we configure the wallpaper option in BGInfo, we can see the wallpaper fine in the 4:3 screen but I can't see fine in 16:9 screen. If I change the file, we can see the wallpaper fine in the 16:9 screen but I can't see fine in 4:3 screen

Please, Are there any solution? ¿How i can deploy the wallpaper according the screen size?

Hi,

I would also like to have copy and paste functionality or some sort of export to excel.

I would like to sum each individual process (private) memory from "Processes", and check if it adds up to (Process Private & Active) from "Use Counts".

I've read that it must add up, but visually it really doesn't seem so...

To recover MS Excel file data, I would like to refer Kernel for Excel recovery software. The software is designed with an advanced and secure algorithm to deal with all minor or major corruption issues. To get more detail about the software, visit: http://www.2016.excelfilerepair.org

Sysinternals' contig(64).exe

by Kees_B / October 14, 2016 1:57 PM PDT

I'm running the latest version 1.8 (downloaded today) in 64 bit Windows 10 Pro with Anniversary Update.

First of all: it needs to be "run as administrator". If run in normal mode, and it wants to defrag a file, it gives an error about not being able to open volume map. That was fine before the Anniversary update. Since it's a command line utility it's somewhat clumsy you first have to run cmd as administrator, to run contig.

Then, when running as administrator and it encounters a file with more than 1 fragment, you get some 20 times a message like (every time for a different target cluster):

" Found a free disk block at 10292968 of length 175001 for entire file.
Moving 18198 clusters at file offset cluster 0 to disk cluster 10292968
Move cluster status: STATUS_ALREADY_COMMITTED"

and finally

"Found a free disk block at 11484345 of length 1670018 for entire file.
Moving 18198 clusters at file offset cluster 0 to disk cluster 11484345
Move cluster status: STATUS_ALREADY_COMMITTED

Moving 18198 clusters at file offset cluster 0 to disk cluster 11484345
Move cluster status: STATUS_ALREADY_COMMITTED

File size: 74537802 bytes
Fragments before: 6
Fragments after : 6
------------------------
Summary:
Number of files processed: 1
Number of files defragmented: 1
Number unsuccessfully procesed: 0
Average fragmentation before: 6 frags/file
Average fragmentation after : 6 frags/file"

which - apart from the typo 'procesed' - clearly is nonsense, because it was utterly unsuccessfull.
This also worked fine before the Anniversary Update.

What's up here? Will there be a corrected version (that can switch to Administrator Mode itself) and does what it is intented to do: defragging)?

The SDelete crashes when it experiences long path (>255?).

It does not accept the \\?\c:\path\... syntax either.

Is there a way to use sdelete on files in long paths or is this a bug?

Thanks

You will need to do one of the following:

#1 Use only a color, no background/wallpaper.
#2 Use a standard wallpaper for everyone that looks good at 4:3 or 16:9.
#3 Force all machines to use stretch wallpaper, may look bad on 16:9 monitors.

Hope that helps -WS
