Sorry, for what probably will be a very simple question.

i've tried to look through the forum for a solution to much info at once.

problem.: i unfortunatly disabled 'lanmanworkstation' under networkproviders in xp.
how can i re-enable it?

windows only starts in save mode
there are no boxes left, that i can tick
did find the: autorunsdisabled folder in the registry.
so i prosume i can edit it with regedit into the original settings, but how? or how can i get the mepty boxes that i can re-tick again.

i did tick the 'include empty locations' in filter options, but no boxes instead of empty boxes.

please help me to restore this please (laymans terms, please)

kind greatings.

Is there a Performance tool like this for VISTA 32 & 64 bit operating systems?
I have a svchost.exe that is consuming 50% to 75% of my CPU continuously.  DCOM Server Process Launcher is the culprit and it can't be shut down without causing the system to reboot.  Plug and Play shares the same PID.  I have tried using Process Explorer, and this svchost appears right under System Idle Process.  I don't understand the tool well enough yet to find out why this process is hogging all the processor time  I'm trying to learn Systernals Tools.  I just don't get it yet.

You can use the Windows 7 version of the SDK/WPT. This works.

The windows 8.x version only works in 7/8.x

use ProcessHacker, it doesn't highlight a process. If it highlights one, click on empty space on the GUI and this is gone.

It doesn't have a graphical interface. Type Sigcheck followed by the parameters you want into a command prompt window and press enter. Sigcheck should be in a folder that is included in your PATH environment variable. Otherwise you will have to use the full file path, e.g. C:\Sysinternals\Sigcheck.exe.

The data movement rates shown on the I/O->Network display graph seem to be at least twice what they should be.  According to my modem, the current maximum download rate should be approximately one(1) Mb (yea, real slow).  When downloading a big file using the Firefox browser, it indicates a download rate of about 100 KB.  The Cygwin update download rates are approximately the same.  Procexp, however, insists that the rate is really about 240-250 KB.  Some of that is overhead but not that much.

FWIW , I seem to remember that Firefox and Procexp were in agreement in one of the older variants of Procexp.

Am I interpreting the numbers incorrectly?

The problem has been observed on both a Windows XP and Vista box.

Miscellaneous Utilities : VMMap Heap Vs Private Data

Subject: VMMap Heap Vs Private Data
Posted: 28 July 2014 at 11:47am

All,

I have an application that creates several private heaps (one per core) via HeapCreate. I subsequently call HeapAlloc to allocate memory from these heaps.

When I look at the application with VMMap we can see large amounts of Private Data (~2G) and associated Committed (~1.2G).

If the heap manager uses 'VirtualAlloc' to reserve and commit memory then I can understand allocations in the Private Data row.

However I only see a 'Size' of 8 megabytes on the 'Heap' row. If I take a DMP of the application I can see that the memory in the 'Private Data' space belongs to my private heap.

So the question is why is the 'Heap' row only showing 8 megabytes when the Private Data is showing 2 gigabytes and I know the virtual memory is on my heap?

Windows seams to try to reuse the ports very often and this causes high CPU usage: usbhub.sys!UsbhHubRunPortChangeQueue->usbhub.sys!UsbhPortRecycle

I have no idea how to fix this :(

There currently is no fix for this...you can email Mark and beg and beg for an update, but it is unlikely he will. We begged for years and when he finally updated the software new bugs were introduced and others never were fixed. We were hoping he would take a week and fix everything. Once he thought it was fixed monitor the forum for new bugs or tweaks and just once and for all fix the issues. Would be super nice if he would also add many of the new things requested here. -WS

I took a calculated, and sand-boxed risk and ran this, saved me loads of time.

Don't usually trust code compiled elsewhere but lack of time and on point of scrapping OS entirely  so this saved me the bother, until later....

Many Thanks

Does reghide run under Windows 8?

I installed it, but it does not open,
only shows some pop up windows with explanation.
Reg-Key as it announces is also not installed "Can't touch me".

What is wrong?

Thanks

Hi,

I find the mini-graphs in the toolbar of the Process Explorer window to be very useful, but what I don't like about them is that it's nearly impossible to get them all the same size by dragging the borders. It's also too easy to drag them off the main toolbar row, thereby creating a new row; when I then drag the graph in question back into the main toolbar, the order/size/position of all the mini-graphs gets even more screwed up.

Please, for the sake of visual consistency, could an option be added to "reset" the mini-graphs to some default size and order? And maybe an option to "lock" the mini-graphs so they can't be accidentally re-sized?

Ideally, I'd even like to see options to set the mini-graphs to one of several preset sizes, let's call them "small", "medium", and "large". "Small" could be perhaps half-an-inch wide on a typical monitor, "large" could be as big as two inches, and "medium" somewhere in-between (maybe an inch). For completeness, you could include the ability to turn them off entirely (resizing to zero width is not the same thing).

More than 2 years later there is still no way to reset the width to its default!

Found a workaround and posted it here: http://superuser.com/a/789703/237960

Sigh.  It's seemingly almost an apples and oranges situation.  The data displayed by procexp is counted as the amount moved during the last refresh period.  The other processes use a data per second display.  Since the default refresh rate for procexp is 2 seconds, that is enough to seem to be "twice as much".  Changing the refresh rate to 1 second causes the numbers to be much closer.

Autoruns : disabled lanmanworkstation

Import the following:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\HwOrder]
"ProviderOrder"="LanmanWorkstation"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order]
"ProviderOrder"="LanmanWorkstation"

If you don't know how, paste the bolded part above into Notepad and save it under AnyName.reg (it will save it as AnyName.reg.txt, delete the last extension) then double click it to import it.

Note: This is not the default configuration. For my purposes, I removed some entries I don't need.
